Manuel II Palaeologus, 1391-1425. Half Stavraton (Silver, 20 mm, 3.97 g, 6 h), light coinage, Constantinopolis, 1403-1425. Nimbate bust of Christ facing, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels, flanked by IC - XC; in outer margin, small pellets. Rev. +MANOVHΛ BA[CI]ΛЄVC O ΠΑΛЄOΛOΓ Nimbate and draped bust of Manuel II facing; to left and right, sigla. DOC 1412 ff. SB 2551. Beautifully toned and unusually complete, an exceptional example. Two minor flan cracks, otherwise, extremely fine.
